What’s In Bloom Today?
Allium “Millenium” is currently a show stopper in the August garden.
Just when other blooms in the garden are beginning to look summer worn, this allium variety begins to shine. Unlike its spring blooming cousins, this hybrid ornamental allium stands only 12 to 18 inches tall and blooms beginning in July and throughout August. The pinkish-purple blooms are most striking in the full sun, but do appreciate a degree of light shade in hot summer. Plants do well in a wide variety of soil, but need good drainage. A bulb, forms clumps which can be transplanted or divided in the fall. Self-seeding does occur ; to prevent, dead-head spent flowers. Alliums are tough plants, drought tolerant and resistant to deer and rabbits. Butterflies love them. You can get your garden mix dirt here at Sunrise Inc.
